WHEN TOMORROW NEVER COMES

BECOME THE BEST YOU CAN BE

Health and Wellness Inspirational Talk

A Few More Things I Want You to Know...

Almost everyone who learns about my life challenges invariably ask how I have overcome what I have and how I am healthy, happy and “normal” today - then frequently urge me to write a book about it. In addition to my WHEN TOMORROW NEVER COMES true murder and spiritual love story book depicted on this website’s Home and Book pages, my BECOME THE BEST YOU CAN BE Mind, Body and Spirit health and wellness self-help book will be out in August 2018. You can read Chapter 1 below. Along with my books, I am also sharing how I have overcome what I have in a way that I am healthy and happy today through my Mind, Body and Spirit health and wellness inspirational speaking.

Stories, especially true stories, are the best way I know to inform, inspire and motivate. I have been heard from many who have heard me speak that my talk does just that. Like other true story inspirational talks I’ve heard, mine includes the message that, if I can overcome what I have, then, you can overcome your own life challenges, too. But my talk is about much more than that! I know how to go through Hell on Earth and still live a healthy, happy life...because I have - and am! Through my story, I want to share with you how I overcame my life challenges, what I learned from them about out Mind, Body and Spirit and, most importantly, how we can all overcome our life challenges and become the best we can be!

Whether you’re a corporation, association, church or college, I’d love to work with you to help make your next convention, conference, seminar, workshop or meeting the best it can be!

BECOME THE BEST YOU CAN BE

When Tomorrow Never Comes

Chapter 1

Three Dire Predictions

“You’ll never be anything but a bum!”

“You’re permanently disabled now - and will never lead a normal life again.”

“You’re the prime suspect in three horrific murders...and your life is ruined!”

These three predictions were about the same life. What kind of person do you think that person became? Bitter? Cynical? Angry? Anti-social? Alcoholic? Drug addicted? Psychopathic? Convicted murderer? All of these? And where do you think that person is today? Homeless? Imprisoned? On Death Row? Dead and buried?

These dire predictions were about my life. What kind of person I have become is something I leave to you to determine. But, where I am in my life today, is helping as many as I can by sharing what I have learned from my life journey through delivering health and wellness inspirational talks based on this book.

About Me and My
WHEN TOMORROW NEVER COMES
BECOME THE BEST YOU CAN BE
Story

Polite and somewhat shy as a boy, I loved sports and never needed to be reminded to say my daily prayers.

Despite hearing throughout my teenage years from my very unhappy mother that I would never become anything but a “bum,” I was known as “Mr. Nice Guy,” served in Student Government and was voted Senior Favorite at my nationally recognized high school.

But, in an act of pure self-sabotage, I walked away from college one semester without withdrawing - so I could make a 0.0 GPA that semester, flunk out and finally be the “bum” I had been told for years I was going to be.

I went to work roughnecking on oil drilling rigs where I ruptured several discs in my spine. Several surgeries later, my surgeon told me that me I was permanently disabled, would never lead a normal life again...and gave me a handful of pain prescriptions.

Instead of what you may be thinking, I threw away my pain meds, devised a plan to overcome my spinal injury and went on to lead a very active life that included playing a variety of sports.

And, despite hearing for years that I would never become anything but a bum, I returned to college and earned the first of several 4.0 semesters on my way to my bachelor of science degree.

I went on to law school and became a trial lawyer -

a trial lawyer who was the subject of various news media stories, including Diane Sawyer interviewing me about my pro bono client charged with murder on the acclaimed 60 Minutes news program for her “Who Killed Vicky Thomas?" story.

One Fourth of July there were romantic fireworks when I fell in love with Julie. I prayed every day for God to bless and protect Julie and her family.

But it wasn’t much more than a year later that Julie, her father and 8-year-old nephew were brutally stabbed to death one night in their peaceful neighborhood home.

When tomorrow never came for Julie, her father and nephew, at the height of my career and life, I became headline news as the prime suspect in their gruesome murders - and faced the toughest challenge of my life.

As Homicide Detectives pursued me trying to break me, I lost my law practice - and almost everything else I had to lose – heard over and over that my life had been “ruined” then was told I flunked a polygraph about the murders and asked if I was finally ready to confess.

After descending into a dark depression, one day I drove up into nearby mountains and found a turn in a mountain road without a guardrail to drive off into the deep gorge below - and end it all.

Despite my longing to die, though, I didn’t drive off that mountain road. But, because I didn’t, I was haunted by my past as the prime suspect in three brutal murders - until I found the killer.

In a race against the executioner, on the day of the killer’s execution for the infamous University of Florida “Gainesville Murders” at the Florida State Prison Execution Chamber...

I orchestrated Danny Rolling’s confession to Julie’s, her father’s and nephew’s murders - clearing myself after 17 long years.

Local, regional and national media, including CNN, ran stories about Rolling’s confession. ABC’s WSB-TV Atlanta News interviewed me and aired a feature story about my orchestrating the confession.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ran a “Free to Live” Sunday morning feature story about my orchestrating Rolling’s confession. And a nationally circulated magazine published a “JUDGE NOT” cover story about it.

The “JUDGE NOT” cover story edition quickly sold out, requiring a second printing, which also sold out.

Despite losing almost everything I had to lose and hearing many times that my life had been “ruined,” today I am healthy and happy turning Tragedy into Good through my upcoming WHEN TOMORROW NEVER COMES book, movie and

inspirational speaking as well as my BECOME THE BEST YOU CAN BE self-help book. I am determined to prove that my life has not been ruined by making this a little better world through sharing what I learned from my journey following Julie, Tom, and Sean Grissom’s murders.

I know how to go through Hell on Earth and still live a long, healthy, happy life!

“You’ll never be anything but a bum!” is what my very unhappy mother told me throughout my teenage years. “You’re permanently disabled now - and will never lead a normal life again,” is what my neurosurgeon told me at age 24 following my roughnecking spinal injury. “You’re the prime suspect in three horrific murders...and your life is ruined!” is what I heard over and over after someone I love, her father and 8-year-old nephew were murdered.

These dire predictions about my life - and how I responded to them – have defined my life and moved me to share what I’ve learned from them about our Mind, Body and Spirit. After becoming disabled for life, HOW DID I overcome my spinal injury and go on to lead a very active life - including playing many sports? After intentionally flunking out of college in an act of self-sabotage so I could become the bum I’d been told for so many years I was going to be, HOW DID I become a lawyer - a trial lawyer who was the subject of various news media stories, including being interviewed by Diane Sawyer on the acclaimed 60 Minutes news program? And, after becoming the prime suspect in three brutal murders, losing my law practice and almost everything I had to lose, being told I’d flunked a polygraph test about the murders, and going up into nearby mountains to drive of a mountain road to end it all, HOW DID I avoid taking my life that day, ultimately find the killer then orchestrate the killer’s confession on the day of his execution for the infamous University of FL “Gainesville Murders” – clearing myself after 17 long years – and today am turning Tragedy into Good through my book, movie and inspirational speaking?

SURVIVING these Mind, Body and Spirit challenges FORCED ME to become the best I can be! And, what I learned from these challenges, can EMPOWER YOU to overcome YOUR OWN life challenges and become the best YOU can be!

Like other inspirational talks I’ve heard, mine includes the message that, if I can overcome what I have, then, you can overcome your own life challenges, too. But my talk is about much more than that! I KNOW how to go through Hell on Earth and still live a healthy, happy life...because I HAVE - AND AM! And I want to share with you HOW I OVERCAME my life challenges, WHAT I LEARNED from them about OUR MIND, BODY and SPIRIT and, most importantly, HOW WE CAN ALL OVERCOME our life challenges and become the best we can be!

So I hope you’ll join me one day to hear my health and wellness inspirational talk WHEN TOMORROW NEVER COMES BECOME THE BEST YOU CAN BE!
